Based in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal, the KwaMnyandu Taxi Owners Association recently purchased two Lifeloc FC10 breathalysers from PSA Africa. This decision was made ahead of the past festive season, which had seen a 16 % increase in South African road deaths.
In an effort to help reduce the number of taxi accidents throughout the eThekwini area at large and make a positive impact within the community they serve, KwaMnyandu took it upon themselves to invest in one of the most reliable instruments available to the transport industry.
Known for its wide use in law enforcement, the Lifeloc FC10 breathalyser presented as a triple threat in terms of accuracy, ease of use and affordability. With a lightweight yet portable rugged body, the FC10 was the most practical choice for the association when it came to quick and hassle-free testing.
Allowing for both direct BAC testing and passive testing (which does not require a mouth piece and is ideal for rapid ‘zero tolerance’ alcohol screening of drivers and open containers), this high-tech breathalyser will give KwaMnyandu members the opportunity to perform random spot checks on each of their drivers at different locations.
It is pleasing to see the association using the FC10 for the greater good of the community and it is always rewarding knowing that the products we supply can literally save lives. We know that this initiative will have a lasting impact on eThekwini road safety and we can only hope that more associations will follow suit and adopt a zero-tolerance attitude.
