You\u2019ve done your homework and purchased the right gas detectors for your facility. Now it\u2019s time to install them. But how do you decide where the sensors should be placed?<\/p>\n

You already know\u00a0gas sensor\u00a0placement is tied to the particulars of your unique facility. But beyond that\u2014because you must take so many variables into account\u2014you have no hard-and-fast rules to follow. However, in this post we\u2019re highlighting some\u00a0best practices<\/em>\u00a0you can consider when you\u2019re ready to install your gas detectors.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve identified three steps involved in the gas sensor installation process.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Observe<\/strong><\/p>\n

Perform a potential gas hazard assessment within your facility.<\/p>\n

Document<\/strong><\/div>\n
Create drawings indicating all potential gas leak sites, as well as the severity of each site\u2019s hazard potential.<\/div>\n

The two main hazardous location categories are:<\/p>\n

  1. Potential gas discharge points.\u00a0<\/strong>These areas are locations where hazardous gases may be\u00a0released<\/em>, such as valve steam seals, gaskets, compression fittings, and expansion joints.<\/li>\n
  2. Potential contact areas.\u00a0<\/strong>These areas are locations where hazardous gases may\u00a0endanger<\/em>\u00a0workers or damage equipment or property. Examples include populated areas; confined spaces; pits; stairwells; crawl spaces; shelters; and residential, business, and industrial environments located nearby.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Investigate<\/strong><\/div>\n

    As gases do not always behave consistently, consider air flow conditions as well as potential gas pocket areas before placing sensors.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
