MSA BRISTOL FIRE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING

Key Applications

Structural Firefighting

Structural firefighter clothing, sometimes also referred to as bunker or turnout gear, is the principal type of personal protective equipment (PPE) used by municipal and industrial firefighters. All of our main structural styles are made to conform to the most widely used standards, EN469:2020, Level 2 and NFPA 1971:2018, and offer Level 2 protection.

To do so, garments must provide

  • An outer layer to protect against flame injury
  • A moisture barrier to protect against water penetration whilst allowing internal moisture vapour to escape
  • An inner thermal barrier and lining to protect against heat from proximity to flame

Urban Search & Rescue

More specialised garments are now being deployed in non-structural firefighting situations. Technical rescue PPE, often termed USAR, is now being used in confined space operations as well as road traffic accidents.

MSA Bristol USAR garments have a two-layer construction incorporating a flame retardant outerlayer with a waterproof membrane to provide flexibility and physical protection against injury when deployed in collapsed buildings or damaged vehicles.

The USAR coat and trouser combination, which can be zipped together to form a single piece garment when required, has a Gore Flameliner G moisture barrier coupled with a choice of outer layer. The options include TechsAlexandra 250HV, Gore Shannon 11 or a Modacrylic Viscose HV. Available in a wide range of sizes, the ensembles can be supplied in a range of colour options including Navy, Hi-Viz Yellow, Hi-Viz Orange and Hi-Viz Red.

Compatible accessories include helmet, boots and gloves.
